Top 10 topic #16: PC
Time for PC! Lets hear it!

-------------------------------

In no particular order, except for #1, and #2.

1. StarCraft
2. Skyrim
3. UnrealTournament
4. Fallout 4
5. Doom II
6. Dungeon Siege
7. Majesty
8. WarCraft II
9. Wing Commander: Armada
10. Total Annihilation

I didn't choose Oblivion simply because using a controller on the PC version sucks and really feels cumbersome. Only the XBOX 360 version was optimized for a controller. Sad There are a ton of others that are just below #10 but these made the cut as games I love and would play today if I got the itch to.

RE: Top 10 topic #15: PC
Finally a topic I can really contribute something! Grin

1. Dungeon Keeper
2. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
3. Splinter Cell: Conviction
4. Dishonored
5. Silent Hill 2
6. WoW
7. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
8. Skyrim
9. Tomb Raider/Rise of the Tomb Raider
10. Gothic II + NotR

There are a lot of good games for PC, I only had to look at my steam library and I could instantly name another 10 games, but since my space is limited I had to decide and I think that's the list I'll go with.

First of all: Dungeon Keeper - all-time favorite, I really love the main game + Deeper Dungeons and there are a lot of good fanmade campaigns at the keeper klan forum.

The Splinter Cell games are self-explaining, I love stealth and Chaos Theory is the prime example in the Splinter Cell series. Conviction is a really nice cover stealth/shooter game, although it went away a bit from the earlier Splinter Cell games.

Dishonored ... Another very good stealth game, I love it how you can drive the story the way you want it. If you decide to play violent with lots of murder the city becomes way darker and the last mission is the perfect example is the last mission: If you kill very few or no people at all everything's fine, the weather is good and the guards are on low alert, but if you decide to do the dirty work yourself, kill lots of people (or let them get eaten by rats) the sky is dark, the weather gets all stormy and everbody's on high alert and even your boat buddy says something else. I really like the steampunk setting.

Silent Hill 2 ... in my opinion the best game in the series with a deep story, if you play it for the first time the plot twist hits you like a truck and you'll still think about it ever after you've finished it because some things remain unconfirmed (in a good way) and you feel like ... Wait, is it like I think it is or it something else?
If you like survival horror and have never played it before, I strongly recommend to do it, it is really worth the time.

WoW ... Well, a fairly common MMO, nothing TOO fancy but all in all a very well rounded game that you can enjoy if you like MMOs. You really have to give Blizzard credit that they kept it alive and interesting for such a long time.

Deus Ex: HR is another very good game made by Eidos Montreal, it combines action with a little rpg in a futuristic setting. You decide for yourself if you want to play it as a shooter, a stealth shooter or a full stealth game, you never have to kill anybody besides bosses. It's been awhile since I last played it so I'm not entirely sure if your actions really really influence the setting, but it's one of the few games where time really matters. In the beginning you're confronted with a situation and if you take too long the outcome is the worst possible and you miss the chance to take influence.

Skyrim ... Simply one of the best RPGs ever made in my opinion with lots of modding possibilities for the PC. The main quest is pretty short, but if offers lots of positive distractions left and right so it doesn't matter too much, it's a fantastic game.

Tomb Raider ... I wasn't sure about this choice, so I took both Grin
Both titles are very good games, the second one is a little more refined while the first one has a better story, but all in all they're both at eye level and everybody has to decide for himself which one is better.

Gothic 2 + NotR ... Yeah, also one of my all-time favorites, I still like to play it every now and then and compared to games like Skyrim it's pretty shabby, but for itself I'd almost say it's a masterpiece. It did so many things right with storytelling, characters, skills and quests plus for me it has a big nostalgic bonus.

Funny how we only share 1 common game on that list, Skyrim. Grin

RE: Top 10 topic #15: PC
Well we have some things in common, but our rating system is just a little different ;)
For example I'd also like to add Doom 2 since it's an awesome game, but I'd add it as an honorable mention. There are so many good games that we would probably need a top 50 to include everything that we really love and a top 100 to include everything we really love AND games we like very much.
It's also not very easy to name your top 10 in an instant because you'd have to think about it, maybe you really like a game, but you also played it not too long ago, so you'd favour a game that you haven't played in a while.

To be honest I wasn't sure if I even wanted to include Skyrim, although it's one of my favorite RPGs because I have played over 200 hours, but right now I wouldn't want to play it again. You may also notice that I haven't included any Hitman game, because I don't feel like playing it in the near future, let's say 3 to maybe 6 months, but if you'd ask in october the list might me different in some places.

I agree, a top 50 or 100 would be a better idea...maybe a separate non-official topic is in order?

I almost put Quake but the others came just before it. Like Lotex said, if this was a top 50 list there would be so many of my favorites in there. It was difficult to narrow it down to just 10...

RE: Top 10 topic #15: PC
It's always hard to narrow it down to 10. I'd also like to add more games, but for now I have to add them as honorable mentions, like:
Unreal Tournament
Doom II
Thief
Styx: Master of Shadows
Hitman: Blood Money or Absolution
Watch Dogs
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
Arkham Asylum/City

If I had to decide again in 6 months the list may contain some other games, maybe some of the older classics or maybe some newer games like Dishonored 2, DX: Mankind Devided or something completely different.

RE: Top 10 topic #15: PC
Hey guys,

As you know, I'm not much of a PC Gamer. I play PC games occasionally when the mood strikes me, or during my console/PC rotation schedule. :-) I still agree with using just the Top 10, since it's challenging and fun remembering what games you enjoyed the most and then narrowing down to the best of the best titles. I mean, there are literally hundreds of SNES games that I enjoyed, but I still stuck with the Top 10. Anyways, here is my list. Not surprisingly, my list has mostly point-n-click adventure and RPG games.

1. Doom 3
2. King's Quest VI: Heir today, Gone tomorrow
3. Syberia
4. Torchlight II
5. Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
6. The Oregon Trail (Apple II version)
7. Grand Theft Auto (the original GTA with top-down view)
8. Alone in the Dark
9. Myst
10. Dungeon Siege

I remember all of the Apple ][ games. Remember Number or Word Munchers from MECC?

Yeah, my first experience with PC gaming was with the Apple ][ (you got the correct Apple trademark), not the IBM PC. People might not realize that the popular PCs today using the Windows operating system are all based on the IBM PC--what they used to call IBM PC clones. The other side of the coin of course belongs to the Apple line of computers.

I didn't get to play a lot of the Apple ][ games. I played stuff like Spy vs Spy and racing games (don't remember the names). It was 7th grade typing class. So, I got to play video games everyday when I finished my class work. Did you own the Apple ][?

RE: Top 10 topic #15: PC
I didn't own an Apple ][ but all of my elementary and middle school classes had either an original Apple, Apple ][, or the super sleek Apple ][gs. The latter was pretty neat and even had a 3½ floppy drive. I played the hell out of Moon Patrol, Oregon Trail, and Defender of the Crown (the best version was on Apple) when we weren't doing the MECC learning programs (Number/Word Munchers and etc).

*edit*
I actually would LOVE to own a fully working Apple ][gs myself...but they aren't cheap.
