RE: Weekly Top 5 topic: Week 6 -- Atari 2600/5200/7800
Here's my Atari 2600/5200/7800 Top 5 List.

1. Space Invaders (Atari 2600)
2. Adventure (Atari 2600)
3. Adventure II (Atari 5200)
4. Double Dragon (Atari 7800)
5. Ninja Golf (Atari 7800)

I know my selection is a bit different from the mainstream classic titles. But I just couldn't resist Adventure I & II being the first attempt at the graphical Action RPG genre, which was similar to The Legend of Zelda. The maps were pretty complex enough that you had to sit down and draw them, or just get lost a lot. :-)

Space Invaders on the Atari 2600 was the superior version to all others with the sheer number of game variations, invisible enemies, and shields that move. Oh, it's the best game on the system.

Being the inferior system to the NES (technologically), Double Dragon still looked and felt just as good.

Who could deny Ninja Golf? It's a silly mixture of golf and ninjas, but the 2D sidescroller was advanced for its day. It's a really fun game. If you get an Atari 7800, check it out. Food Fight would of been in the Top 5. But Ninja Golf beat it by a hairline.

I guess my picks are generic? We never really got in to Atari as youngsters. Intellivision and Colecovision more than Atari. But thanks to emulators we can enjoy all of them now. :)

That's okay, I played Atari 2600 before I even bought my first console (NES) at my friends' house. Can you believe that a girl introduced me to video games? :-) But I pretty much stopped playing Atari after the NES purchase until much later. Thanks to my game store, I was able to play more Atari 2600 - 7800 a lot more back in 2004 and onwards. That was also the year when I finally bought an Atari 2600.

Ya, she was actually my babysitter. I believe she was like 16 years old, while I was like 10. The first game I played on her Atari 2600 was Frogger. It was so awesome to a kid. Then later, I befriended another girl who was about my age. And she too had an Atari 2600. We spent many afternoons playing Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Frogger, Asteroids, and Space Invaders. This all happened before I bought the NES.
