Morality
Hey folks,

I was thinking about such a thread for a while now and came up with two examples that are probably pretty hot topics for many people, not just a splinter group.
I came up with the first thing since I like watching animes, the last years I developed a liking for comedy animes with a little bit of drama and romance and I noticed that pretty much in every anime there's a "brother/sister" situation, where one or both are adopted and were raised together as siblings, although they're not blood-related.
Do you think such a connection is ok or do you think it is completely inappropriate and why do you think so? No matter if you're pro or contra, it'd be nice to have a little explanation, not just "It's ok" or "Absolutely not".

Second topic inside the topic (yay, topicception!) refers to "Epic rap battles of History", especially this one Darth Vader vs. Adolph Hitler, since it's probably the most controversial Video out there because of Mr. H. There are also other battles that involve George Washington, Martin Luther King, Mozart or Gandhi.
Do you think it's ok to use such historical figures (positive or negative) in projects like that or do you think that's a complete no-go?
As with the question before I'd appreciate a more detailed answer :)

Sure, it's alright to have that kind of relationship. If you happen to love your step brother or sister in a romantic way, then so be it. Personally, I love everybody in the world as my brother or sister. If they are much older than me, then I love them as my Father or Mother. If they are children, then I love them as my own little ones. They don't have to be blood-related. However, because they are not blood-related, I have the option to "upgrade" the love for a sister to love between a man and a woman.

Regardless if they are popular figures in history or not, you should not use them as a joke or in a negative way. Though Hitler did a lot of "bad" things like mass murder and taking over the world through force, he should just be a historical figure--an example of something you must not do and it should stay as that. It's okay to make a historical reenactment of what happened like a movie or play. But it's not okay to poke fun at what he did.

The same principles apply to positive figures such as Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr. They gave to the world many philosophies, wisdom, and teachings; so we should honor those gifts as something we must learn from and apply to our own lives to raise our own consciousness.

Well that's true, but as things like music change don't you think such entertainment could be a possibility to reach out for the younger generation and introduce them to history (besides Darth Vader) when they realize "Hey, I don't really know anything about Gandhi, Genghis Khan or Hitler, so hey - Let's look it up"
These videos don't really teach you any historical facts or maybe anything at all besides satiric comedy and black humor, but I think it could be a connection for some people since studying is a lot easier when you're having fun and if you like these videos it maybe could give you the little push you need.

All of those historical figures are introduced in school, at least when I was a kid. And if the kids find them interesting, then they will go into the library, internet, or book store to read more about them. There is no need to submit our children to Rap, Heavy Metal, Rock, or any kind of music or video that are uninspiring and can lower their thought forms.

It's kinda like if you want to teach kids about Sex. Do you teach them with books and a well-thought out explanation, or do you let them watch Adult Movies with people having sex? Of course you're going to choose the first one.

RE: Morality
Depends, we didn't have anything about Washington, Lincoln, Genghis Khan or Gandhi at school plus there's way to much for only these four persons to go into detail about.

I don't really think that sex and history is a good comparison since probably everybody likes sex, but not everybody likes history and/or books Grin
It's true that neither porn nor ERB have any teaching content, but in contrast ERB has at least a slight chance to make you look some facts or some people up while porn could only make you watch more porn Grin
