Mystic Quest Reborn LITE public release

I've waited a while for Mystic Quest Reborn LITE to be purchased as a reproduction from Uncle Tusk and now over a year later it will be publicly released as an IPS file. It has been updated to Version 2.2 with some minor bugfixes, a major bugfix, and a few misc tweaks behind the scenes. On bug fixed is Mount Gale / Pazuzu's Tower music as the original was bugged out.

Secret FFVI Project

I've made some good progress here and have come a long way. Currently I'm spending my time rewriting the story and figuring out how to accomplish a few things like magic spells and enemy AI. Once all that is done 90% of the rest of what I need to do is down to drawing new maps and creating the events--which I'll need help on. Also, I've been working closely with GiNattak on the music selection but I am also tossing the idea around for implimenting MSU-1 as well.

Final Fantasy Reconstructed by duke2go

Friday, August 15, 2014

I thought this day would never come. I have been thinking about this for about a year... I think it is time I retire from game modification aka ROM "hacking" and utility programming. It is a hard decision to come to but it is one that I have to make. I have various reasons for this decision but the primary ones tip the scales in that direction. Mostly I've lost the desire to do these things and with where my life is now I just don't have all of the time I feel is needed to dedicate to this. Whether it be working too much, doing the upkeep on our house, and with my wife and I talking about kids I just don't have the time any longer. I am almost 35 so it is not going to be getting any easier to have freetime for the activities that I like doing by myself.

I feel very proud of what I have accomplished and contributed to the community so I will retire with a sense of pride. I helped pioneer Final Fantasy 4 and 6 game modification starting in 2000. I also helped make SPC modification for the Square games more mainstream with the launch of my SPC Editor and individual game documents starting in 2006/2007. But honestly the thing that makes me the most proud is the countless people that I have both introduced and mentored in this field. And some of those guys have paid it forward and mentored newcomers and even those have now started being mentors. My only regret is not finishing about a half dozen projects that I spent so much time on. But, they are being archived so if I ever feel peckish I can still come back to them.

I will check in from time to time on where the game/ROM "hacking" community is at and what sorts of things are going on but my active and contribution days are over. I still will attempt to fix any bugs if I can on any project already publicly released but it may take longer than usual. My forum on jce3000gt.com will remain open and I will be active on it everyday so please feel free to still post anything you like on this or other subjects. I will also periodically check my private messages and emails if anyone needs to get a hold of me for whatever reason. Thank you to everybody that has helped, contributed, and assisted with any of my projects. It has been a great ride!

Shameless plug for two FF2us/FF4 YouTube videos

I've got two videos of a couple of tricks for Final Fantasy 2 US / Final Fantasy IV that I'd like to share. The 256 item duplication trick, the original, the one that doesn't require the use of the Avenger sword or Bows+Arrows. Those other so-called duplication tricks are lame and not as efficient. The Life trick is as far as I can tell never been documented since I first documented it on my very first website back in the GeoCities days pre-1998. Both of these tricks have been in use by myself and a good close friend of mine of 20 years, XTCrystail. Enjoy.

Legend of Zelda 3 Easy project release

I've released the first public patch for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The mod is obviously called, Legend of Zelda 3 Easy. The whole point of the mod is to make the game much easier. Its only designed for the player that wants a speed run or a player to pad their save stats.
I will be releasing several more Easy Type patches in the near future.
The games that are on the calendar are:
-Chrono Trigger
-Final Fantasy II/IV
-Final Fantasy III/VI
-Mystic Quest (as if you need it any easier!)
-Secret of Mana
-maybe a few others!

I am still in need of beta testers for the Mystic Quest HardType!

Mystic Quest HardType Beta patch update

Mystic Quest HardType Beta patch released

I've continued my Mystic Quest HardType project. This time the game should be more fun and challenging. Due keep in mind the mod is in its beta infancy so don't expect much. As for right now you can go through the game up until the first boss, after that the game is normal. The Mystic Quest Multi Editor has been updated, the monster editor now has an EXP and GP portion. I've also updated the SPC Editor. I've included all the song titles for Final Fantasy V courtesy of Lenophis.

Mystic Quest Multi Editor updated and a new patch released + more

I've updated the Mystic Quest Multi Editor (MQME) to version 0.85b. Some new features are present as well as a few code revisions. It is going to be possible in the near future to be able to fully edit the characters, items/equipment, monsters and some game text (not game dialogue) with no restrictions.

I have released a patch for Mystic Quest that actually makes the game a bit harder. The only catch is the first beta test release only has the game harder until after you beat the Minotaur in the first forest. It will be continually updated once all the beta testers finish their testing and supply some suggestions.

ALSO, I will be doing another Final Fantasy II us Insane mod that makes the game bonkers to play. As well as make a few "EasyType" mods for a few games. The first batch will include: Final Fantasy (NES), Final Fantasy II/IV (SNES), Final Fantasy III/VI (SNES) and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES). The point to these will be just to allow the player to easily go through the game not having to sweat any monster encounters so they can concentrate on reading and or playing the story.

If you are an author and you do not want me to host a file that is already hosted please drop me an email so I can remove it.
